How about we all pretend this is last Friday and this is my Daily Buzz delivered right on time? Does that work for you? I think my brain was a bit sleepy following last Thursday's Back-to-School Curriculum night and, as a result, was functioning at less than warp speed. Despite this admission, it was a pleasure to meet and greet so many parents and have the opportunity to address the focus areas of our year together. As we enter this brand new week I plan to concentrate on our phonics program and assist the kiddos as they become more familiar with how to organize their various materials. Our Superkids reading program will be in full swing as we begin working on our Daily Routine. In an effort to incorporate handwriting and letter formation, I plan to have all using the primary writing paper from last year and then slowly ease into using the Grade 2 primary-spaced paper. Tomorrow I will be choosing one child as this Friday's first Self-Backpack presenter. Pssst...remember, NO live animals! Enjoy the rest of your evening. Looking forward to a brand new week spent with your "seconders!" Pssst...thank you to all for the very sweet notes which were shared with all!
Happy Frida...oops...Thur...oops...Wednesday! Hard to believe it's only Wednesday. Is it me or has this week progressed along s-l-o-w-l-y? In one way I suppose I should be quite happy as the wrinkles on my face are surfacing a bit slower than usual. (Pssst...wrinkles is one of our vocabulary words. The other day I asked the kiddos to give me a full sentence using that word...and they all looked at me! As if! Good thing I'm a pretty good sport concerning the humor streak within young ones! Actually, come to think of it, it matches my own.) Hey...we had a fire drill this morning and this grade was PERFECT! They set the example for some of our older grades. Not kidding.
Please Note: the Spelling paper sent along today was only a review paper. We will review our words constantly through our writing samples and learning games. Additional Please Note: Ask your kiddos about the game "Compression." I use this game as a means to determine the number sense of my students. Happily they were able to take over in small groups of three and continue the game while I ran off down the school hallway in wild abandonment. Not to worry if they can't explain...I'll make sure we play a game tomorrow night. Remind me! I love your children for, believe it or not, they are keeping me YOUNG! (No wrinkles...) Happy evening...Mrs. D. :-) I've actually been hiding behind this great big bus! Hardy har har...stay with me, folks for I really do get better. Promise! As you have probably read by now, two newsy items were sent along with your kiddo today: Info. concerning our Prayer Journal requests and info. concerning our Self-Backpack time. The latter will begin next week along with...wait for it...wait for it...drum roll inserted right about now...Home Education!!!! Whoo hoo! Dance Party Time! Break out the streamers! (Not to worry for I plan to explain a bit more to all during our Back-to-School Curriculum Night this Thursday.) Moving right along...your children were absolutely wonderful throughout this entire hot, humid and hazy day. Their focus is improving daily; their willingness to become active participants in their learning...a pleasure to witness. Just saying. We were treated to a live action video book report courtesy of the Kirousis family! Perfectly themed...all about PIRATES! What a blast! Thanks sooo much for sharing as the class loved it!
Time to climb aboard my broom and fly home...I continue to crack myself up! Take care...Mrs.D. :-) My brain is currently searching for a freezer...even frozen brain cells are a plus over melting ones. I am quite happy to report that we will begin exploring several of our new books tomorrow! SUPERKIDS, here we come. Today the kiddos continued to spend quite a large part of our day working in groups in an effort (supreme) to understand collaboration and the value of individual as well as shared responses. Displayed kindness remains our focus. Speaking of kindness, our great pal, Miss Ellis, brought her 6th graders downstairs to our classroom wherein they became the instructors for the "Duo Lingo"program using Chromebooks. This is a program to teach early Italian vocabulary to young learners (as our Italian classes will begin sometime in September). Talk about great teachers! All assistance is so appreciated...collaboration at its best!
OK...brain freeze on the way. Time to defrost and continue merrily working away you-know-where. Thanks so much for reading along on this, our 85th...oops!...third day! Mrs.D. :-) (as in Defrost) Well, this is my assessment of our second day. I think all my fine friends are simply grateful that they didn't melt! Hot, hot, hot...we're talking sizzling, baby. Between an afternoon gym class and a very warm lunch room...enough said! (Was this ONLY day 2?) Ho hum...I was able to introduce some basic classroom guidelines with these kiddos, however, DID cease and desist from overloading them (at least I tried!) During this second day we managed to complete a couple of Team Building activities, something I hope to continuously work on throughout this entire year. I'm still focusing on some group dynamics and how we model those positive listening and behavior skills always keeping in mind all these fine friends are works in progress (as am I). KINDNESS is our theme and will always remain so. That being said all listened to a lovely story, "Every Little Kindness" concerning all those opportunities to make best decisions in order to help others and the powerful rippling effect of those decisions.
Favor #1: Could you allow your kiddo to bring a small rock (No boulders allowed) to class tomorrow. I plan on demonstrating first-hand the rippling effect of all our deeds/words/actions... Favor #2: I would like each child to bring in an EMPTY PRINGLES container perhaps some time next week. I plan to use these as a means of sharing positive notes in a bit of a personal way. Cute idea, right? I'm quite sure I should be sharing additional tidbits, however, I'm just plain tidbitted out! (Pssssst...don't you think tidbitted should be a real word?) Enjoy the rest of your day and keep cool! Mrs. D. :-) Dear Parents,
Guess who's still in school? Guess who's had multiple cups of coffee? Guess who's in need of more coffee? Yours truly, Mrs. D.! What can I say? My home-away-from-home is taking shape for the new school year, thanks to the technological wizardry of both Mrs. French and Miss Ellis. Talk about a support system! Not to worry, my blossoming will soon mirror Ms. Blossom* herself. *Ms. Blossom is the Grade 2 teacher in the SuperKids reading series. Please remember that I send daily updates during the school year (which will include news-y items, reminders, and home education assignments) so check back at this blog on my new Weebly site (Thanks, Mrs. French!). See you soon! ~Mrs. D. : ) |
